My four priorities
12 signature commitments for Fairfax County Public Schools
A student-centered, community-driven agenda built on four priorities: Strong Public Education, Meaningful Community Engagement, Student Safety & Well-Being, and Inclusivity & Belonging.
Priority one
Strong Public Education
Invest in the schools our students deserve. Public education is an investment in our children, our families, and the future of Fairfax County.
COMMITMENT 1
Put Students at the Center of Every Budget
I will advocate for responsible investments that directly support student learning, strong schools, and the educators and staff who serve our children.
My commitment: Promote transparent budgeting and make student outcomes, educational opportunity, and essential school needs central to funding decisions.
COMMITMENT 2
Support Teachers & School Staff
Great schools depend on talented, supported educators and staff.
My commitment: Advocate for the resources, professional support, working conditions, and respect that teachers and school staff need to do their jobs effectively.
COMMITMENT 3
Expand Pathways to Student Success
Success does not look the same for every student.
My commitment: Support strong academic programs and multiple pathways, including college, career and technical education, workforce preparation, and other opportunities that help students build successful futures.
Priority two
Meaningful Community Engagement
Listen. Include. Collaborate. Our schools belong to the entire community.
COMMITMENT 4
Make Listening a Leadership Practice
Community engagement should happen before decisions are made, not after.
My commitment: Create more meaningful opportunities for students, families, educators, staff, and community members to share concerns and ideas before major decisions affecting schools are finalized.
COMMITMENT 5
Build Stronger School and Community Partnerships
Schools cannot do everything alone.
My commitment: Strengthen partnerships among FCPS, PTAs and PTOs, families, civic organizations, businesses, nonprofits, and community leaders to expand resources and opportunities for students.
COMMITMENT 6
Make Transparency & Accountability the Standard
Trust grows when people understand how decisions are made.
My commitment: Advocate for clear communication about School Board decisions, priorities, budgets, and outcomes, and make it easier for families and residents to understand how decisions affect their schools.
Priority three
Student Safety & Well-Being
Safe schools are essential to successful learning. Students cannot reach their full potential if they do not feel safe, supported, and connected.
COMMITMENT 7
Make Safe & Supportive Schools a Priority
Safety is more than security. It is creating an environment where students feel protected, supported, and ready to learn.
My commitment: Support comprehensive approaches to school safety that address physical security, prevention, student support, trusted adults, and strong school-community partnerships.
COMMITMENT 8
Strengthen Early Support for Students
When students struggle, early support can make a meaningful difference.
My commitment: Advocate for effective prevention and early-intervention strategies and appropriate student supports so challenges can be addressed before they become larger barriers to learning and success.
COMMITMENT 9
Listen to Students About Their School Experience
Students experience our schools every day. Their perspectives matter.
My commitment: Create meaningful opportunities for students to share what is working, identify concerns, and contribute ideas for making their schools safer, healthier, and more supportive.
Priority four
Inclusivity & Belonging
Every student should know: “I belong here.” Every child deserves to be treated with dignity and respect.
COMMITMENT 10
Ensure Every Student Knows They Belong
Every child deserves to feel seen, respected, and valued.
My commitment: Promote school environments where students are welcomed, treated with dignity, and given meaningful opportunities to participate and succeed.
COMMITMENT 11
Remove Barriers to Opportunity
A student’s circumstances should not determine their future.
My commitment: Identify barriers that prevent students from accessing educational programs, support services, extracurricular activities, and other opportunities, and advocate for practical ways to expand access.
COMMITMENT 12
Build a Culture of Respect & Collaboration
Our differences should not prevent us from working together for our children.
My commitment: Promote respectful dialogue among students, families, educators, staff, and community members while keeping student learning, safety, opportunity, and success at the center of our shared work.
